ThinkTank Theater Announces Cast of THE LIGHTNING THIEF

ThinkTank Theater has announced the cast for its 22/23 season opener, “The Lightning Thief; The Percy Jackson Musical’. The musical is based on The Lightning Thief, the first book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan. The best-selling five-book series has led to 2 film adaptations and an upcoming Hulu series. Now ThinkTank Theater will stage the musical version of the story which debuted off-Broadway in 2014. The music and lyrics were written by Rob Rokicki and the book is by Joe Tracz. The ThinkTank production will kick off at the Stageworks Theater on October 8 and run through October 16.

The cast has many new faces on the ThinkTank stage, but not on the Tampa Bay audience. Johnathan O’Brien (Percy Jackson), Jaryn McCann (M.B/Chiron), Nate Doran (Grover/MD) and Drew Eberhard (Luke/Ares) make their ThinkTank debuts. Back at ThinkTank, Kathryn Huettle (Annabeth) has been seen in ‘All the Great Books Abridged’ and ‘Snoopy!!! The Musical’. Fans of The TYA Company will also recognize Summer Kiesel (Sally Jackson) from ‘Holiday Festivus and ThinkTank’s “Drunken Shakespeare”.

As always, ThinkTank Theater will make great use of its Young Artists’ Ensemble (YAE) company, a group of talented high school theater makers who have the opportunity to work alongside professionals. In this production, YAE members Annie Sardouk (The Giver, TYA Playfest 2022) and Kaylee Tupper Miller (Snoopy, #Enough, Boozy Broadway, TYA Play Fest 2022) will both star as Clarisse. Fellow YAE Company members Via Shae (Snoopy, Boozy Broadway, Drunken Shakes) and Adeline Richardson (Boozy Broadway, TYA Play Fest) will round out the ensemble cast.

The groundbreaking music will be led by Tampa’s Sarah Tellier and Jessica Scruggs, who directed Snoopy!!! for ThinkTank in May 2020, will serve as choreographer. The show is directed by Georgia Mallory Guy, artistic director of ThinkTank. Georgia has done many ThinkTank productions in the past including James and the Giant Peach, The Giver, #Enough and more. She was recently seen performing in FreeFall Theater’s Rose and Walsh.

“I’m thrilled,” says Guy, “The cast is an incredible mix of ThinkTank alumni that I adore and some exceptional new faces; some that I was just looking for the right opportunity to use and some that were the perfect complement to telling this Plus, with Jessica and Sarah by my side as my eyes and ears, the ever-constant Jessie Dorsey running the ship as production manager and a design team that I’ve already won over to me, I’m excited to get this show off and very much hope the Tampa audience doesn’t sleep on it.”
