Tampa Bay Lucas Edmonds Lightning Sign

22nd of July : Lightning has officially announced the three-year contract.

July 21: The Tampa Bay Lightning landed one of the best overage picks available in the 2022 NHL Draft, and now they’ve signed him to his entry-level contract. By CapFriendlyLightning signed lucas edmonds to an entry-level three-year contract capped at $861,667. The breakdown of the contract is as follows:

2022-23: Base salary of $750,000, signing bonus of $95,000, GP bonus of $105,000
2023-24: Base salary of $775,000, signing bonus of $95,000, GP bonus of $80,000
2024-25: Base salary of $775,000, signing bonus of $95,000, GP bonus of $80,000

The 21-year-old Edmonds hit the radar of teams this season when he returned to North America after spending most of his development in Sweden. He never really excelled in the Swedish junior ranks, and he couldn’t hold on to a role last season when he was given the professional opportunity in Sweden’s second-tier league. A move to Kingston in the OHL though, playing on the same team as the fourth overall pick Shane Wright, unlocked Edmonds Offensive Production. In 68 games, the playmaker winger topped the scoring list with 113 points in 68 games, 79 of which came in the form of assists.

Edmonds’ projection is a bit fuzzy because although he showed potential this season, he was also playing against players in lower age brackets as an older player in the OHL. That must have been enough to convince Tampa’s scouting department, as they took him to the top 100 picks at No. 86.

With Edmonds unable to return to juniors, he’s likely destined to make his pro debut for the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch next season.
