Picks, predictions and odds Lightning vs Capitals tonight

Washington’s injured list seems to be getting longer and longer every week, and now he faces a starving Tampa team that has won four of six. With a healthier roster, our NHL betting picks back the Lightning to get the job done in 60 minutes.

The Tampa Bay Lightning and Washington Capitals are ready for their first game of the season, but it doesn’t feel the same as it has in the past. Both teams are off to a pretty average start to the season, but the Caps have serious injury issues.

The Bolts haven’t been as dominant as we’ve seen in the past two years, but with a ton of key players missing from Washington’s roster, this could be a night where Tampa completely takes over.

I will break this down and much more in my NHL Betting Picks and Predictions for Lightning vs. Capitals on Nov. 11.

Lightning vs. Capitals picks and predictions

The Uppercase letters haven’t been the luckiest teams so far this season. Right now, they’re missing seven key players from the roster: Nicklas Backstrom, Tom Wilson, Carl Hagelin, Connor Brown, John Carlson, TJ Oshie and Dmitry Orlov – which is questionable at least to play tonight.

The Caps are going to crumble anytime they continue to play shorthanded. They enter this game with a 6-7-2 record and are sixth in the Metropolitan Division.

The Tampa Bay Lightning haven’t necessarily played badly, but they don’t seem to be at their best at the start of the season either. They’ve won four of their last six games, so they must come into this contest feeling pretty good about themselves – but in reality, they’ve just been super average.

The good news for the Bolts is that they don’t have as many health issues as they used to, with Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos both healthy and playing good hockey.

Washington’s weakest link this season has been its offense, which in years past has never really been a problem. With so many guys out of the lineup, it’s been hard for him to find line chemistry – resulting in just 2.73 goals and 28.5 shots per game.

The Caps have a very tough test tonight against Andrei Vasilevsky who’s been the league’s top goaltender for about five years. Vasy posts a +4.8 GSAx with a 0.910 SV% and a 2.90 GAA.

Tampa Bay shouldn’t have much trouble slowing down the Capitals’ forwards tonight and I don’t think Washington will be able to beat Vasilevskiy that much. It’s a great place for the Bolts and I think they’ll win this game in regulation.

Analysis of the Lightning vs. Capitals funding line

The Washington Capitals come into this game with just one win in their last six games, but it’s hard to blame them for all the adversity they’ve faced. They’re trying to avoid digging themselves too big a hole to get out of if they want to make the playoffs, but it almost feels like this injury issue isn’t even under their control.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have been about as average as they come, but if we’ve learned anything in recent NHL seasons, it’s that they can fire up the jets and start at any time. They have been in the middle of the pack when it comes to attacking and defending their opponents, but tonight they have a slightly easier game than usual.

The Bolts are scoring 3.23 goals per game, so finding the back of the net wasn’t a problem. The same cannot be said for the Caps who score 2.73 goals every night with 46.04% expected goals.

Tampa should be able to dominate the game for most of this game and I think Washington will have a hard time putting the pucks behind Andrei Vasilevskiy.

Lightning vs. Capitals Over/Under Analysis

Neither of these teams necessarily light up the scoresheet, so I don’t see this game as a very high scorer, especially with Darcy Kuemper and Andrei Vasilevskiy watching every goal.

Last season, these two teams met on three different occasions and the Under struck twice. The standings may not show it right now, but they’re two of the most competitive teams in the league and have developed a bit of a rivalry over the past few years – so this game should pack a ton of emotion.

Neither team really jumps out at me when it comes to offensive production, so I don’t see there being a ton of goals, especially with this goalie game. I think this game will stay Under.
