Carolina Hurricanes at Tampa Bay Lightning Game Preview 03/11/2022

The Hurricanes head to Tampa Bay for a matchup between the Eastern Conference giants. The puck drop is scheduled for 7:08 p.m. EST.

Carolina ended October winning three of four games. The Hurricanes are led in points by Andrei Svechnikov who has scored eight goals in his first nine games. Carolina already has three skaters with double-digit points while Svechnikov and Sebastian Aho have 10 each and Martin Necas has 13 points. Both Hurricanes goalies have been good so far. Antti Raanta and Frederik Andersen both have sub-2.65 goals-against averages, while Raanta has a .912 save percentage.

Tampa Bay enters tonight’s game winning three straight and five of their last six. The Lightning score as usual early on as Steven Stamkos leads the team with seven goals. Tampa also has three skaters with double-digit points. Brayden Point (10), Stamkos (11) and Nikita Kucherov (15) lead the Bolts in production. Andrei Vasilevskiy has been good, but not great, in his first seven games. The Russian is 4-3-0 with a GAA of 2.89 and an SV% of 0.902. Defender Victor Hedman is doubtful tonight with what is being reported as an “upper body” injury.

Carolina won two of Tampa Bay’s three games and five of six points last season. While the Lightning lost two of three last season, the Bolts still managed to capture a third point due to an overtime loss. Tonight’s likely goaltenders are Andersen for the Hurricanes and Vasilevskiy for the Lightning.
